Bordeaux - Tolouse - Narbonne - Barcelona!

We started the day by waving goodbye to the self-sown hollyhocks on our street and the Marché du Capucins, and headed back to Bordeaux station. Em’s luggage refused to leave without its newfound love.

I’m sure that train travel was a lot easier in 2009 than it is today. To get into Spain, we had to change at Tolouse and then Narbonne, getting into Barcelona 10 hours later.

Leaving the wine region, we passed a lot of broad acre crops like sunflowers, interspersed with some areas of wild vegetation. Heading south, we started seeing the olive groves again, which we’ve been missing since Greece or Albania.

We waved to Carcassonne on the way past, and later the Fort de Salses, a 15th century fortress that was once the frontier between Catalonia and France.

Getting into Barcelona, Jess spent 2 hours waiting at the train station to get our tickets all booked. I am too impatient, so went for a walk. A slightly boring cheese and lettuce sandwich later, it’s bedtime in our separate dorm rooms (they couldn’t put us together). Send us some energy, if you have any spare!
